CSU Noyce Program
I direct CSU's NSF Noyce Teacher Education Program, along with colleagues across campus: Dean Jan Nerger, College of Natural Science, Dr. Paul Kennedy, Math (retired), Dr. Tom Siller, Civil&Environmental Engineering, Dr. Andrea Weinberg, Education (affiliate faculty, now at Arizona State University), and Dr. Laura Sample McMeeking (CSU STEM Center).
My graduate student, DeeDee Wright, and I design professional development workshops for pre- and in-service teachers through a series called "Sense of Place," which encourages teachers to draw on local resources, topics, and issues to engage and empower students. We model how high-leverage teaching practices and issues of inclusivity can be integrated in STEM lessons. This approach was reinforced by our funding agency and colleagues at the 2018 national Noyce Summit (NSF/AAAS).
