STEM TEacher Education
Some members of my research group have been/are interested in exploring how science literacy can be improved by supporting pre-service and in-service STEM teachers.
CSU Noyce STEM Teacher Education Project
Much of my teacher education research is done in collaboration with Dr. Andrea Weinberg (Arizona State University) and Dr. Laura Sample McMeeking (CSU STEM Center). By better preparing teachers in pedagogical content knowledge and high-impact teaching practices, we predict that:
1. teachers will feel more prepared and resilient to stay in the teacher profession
2. students in those teachers' classrooms will demonstrate greater interest in STEM studies
3. students in those teachers' classrooms will demonstrate increased achievement (performance) in STEM

The Math-Science Partnership Project with Poudre School District
I have a current project (CDE grant with the local school district) working with Dr. Ann Sebald (CSU Center for Educator Preparation) exploring how to recruit STEM majors into the teaching profession. We have hired 11 undergraduate students from the Colleges of Natural Science and Natural Resources to support local science and math teachers in upper elementary, middle, and high school classrooms. Our goals are to provide positive experiences for CSU students who are considering entering the teaching profession.
